The heat is just as dangerous for our pets as it is for you and me.
When temperatures heat up, one of our biggest concerns for dogs is hot walks on the pavement. The asphalt can get significantly hotter than the air temperature and can easily burn your pet’s paws. It can be very painful. We’ve seen painful blistered pads. They’re walking fine one second and then all of a sudden they look like they’re walking on hot eggshells. You get home and see that their whole set of pads have been burned off! Paw pads are sensitive and can be burned even if the temperature outside is only 80 degrees. If you plan to take your dog out on a hot day, do it early in the day. Avoid the pavement or have your dog wear booties. If you can’t hold your hand on the surface for more than 10 seconds, it is too hot for your dog’s feet!
